Miracle cure - presentation and discussion

Who should attend?

This course was initially designed with mental health professionals in mind. Having said that everything is presented in a style that is appreciated by everyone. Attendees have ranged from age 16 to 76.

Background

This is the original Stop Paddling course, first presented in 2000. It stems from health professionals often not being able to explain stress and the link to mental illness in a concise way that can be fully appreciated by those at risk or in a way that might aid people in the early stages of recovery.

How you participate

The central part of the session is a 3D demonstration where participants may wish to assist with an unforgettable model building experience. All participants join in a brief demonstration showing why people become ill in stressful situations - this is so simple that many participants find themselves demonstrating the same technique to their colleagues as soon as they are back at work!

Objectives

Participants will be given a new view of what keeps people in good mental health and so have a new way of considering how people recover from mental health problems such as depression.

This session gives a powerful message of hope for people in recovering and very importantly for relatives and colleagues. This hope coupled with follow up from Stop Paddling can be a very powerful aid to recovery.

Follow up

Participants are encouraged to keep in touch with Stop Paddling by e-mail to make best use of the ideas presented and to build on these.

All participants choosing to do this will receive support from Stop Paddling as we can be contacted by email and will try to respond quickly to all requests for help and further information.

Benefits to your business or group

Initially this may be a course for occupational health and human resources personnel. It could then be opened up for high risk groups or simply anyone wishing to attend.

Measuring the benefits of having employees better understand how stress causes mental illness may not be straight forward - Stop Paddling can help with this.

Time for a session

This session typically takes just 60 minutes but generates a lot of discussion so the facilitator will be around much longer if required to ensure everyone is satisfied and understands the follow up that is available.

Suggested number of participants

6 to 16

Things to consider before booking

Forget any ideas that stress and mental health are complex subjects - this session will show you just how simple things can be.

We can decide together whether completing a short questionnaire a little while before this session would be beneficial.
