The Challenge
For years now there has been talk of "work-life balance", whilst stress related illnesses are often described as a "chemical imbalance". If you suffer from stress then it is likely that like me these concepts have not helped much. What is needed is a new perspective on stress based on practical experience and proven recovery from a stressed unbalanced life.
The Solution
A presentation sets the scene and explains a remarkable new idea. This is followed by a 3D demonstration in the centre of the group and the opportunity of participants to explore how they can use this new approach in groups and as individuals. The exercises can be tailored to the groups needs.
The Result
You will have a new view of balance. You will leave with a personal plan for improving balance in your life and in doing so be able to reduce the stress you are feeling. By putting the plan into action you will reduce risks associated with stress related illnesses.
The Follow up
Participants are welcome to sign up for free delivery of Stop Paddling's newsletter, "Sailing Ideas", which includes issues focused on balance.
Having completed a plan for improving balance this can be discussed with Roger by email in the months following the course as balance is a lot to do with flexibilty and adapting to change.
Advanced courses on balance are also available.
Benefits to your business
At work it is so easy for people to focus on specific tasks whist not looking after themselves. My experience is that simply looking at "work-life balance" does not address this problem. Looking at balance from a point of view of staying healthy even in the most stressful environments is a logical and effective approach. Employees who are balanced are far less prone to illnesses of all kinds. Sickness rates may be seen to decrease as employees regain balance.
Time for a session
It is just possible to fit the session described above into 60 minutes but balance is a big subject and more material can be covered in a longer session.
Note: The facilitator will be around for an agreed time after the course and participants are encouraged to stay behind to discuss the course whilst props are being packed away.
Suggested number of participants
Depends entirely on size of room.
Who should attend?
This workshop has been delivered both for groups in a workplace setting and for charity groups where members are looking for more stable lives.
Things to consider when booking
This course has mainly been run using a flipchart and a large table at the front for the 3D demonstrations.
For a larger group the ideal lay-out allows the use of Powerpoint (colourful presentation with photographs and diagrams. Stop Paddling can provide both projector and screen).
Chairs arranged in an arc with the demonstrations in the centre works well, as does a large room with participants seated in groups at round tables.
